Capgemini v3

We can’t talk about sustainability
without talking about ourselves
without remembering our childhoods
what our bones are made of
or where our bodies go to rest.

Our bones hold parts of the stars
our cells
are the tiniest solar systems
magnetized to our centers
the earth
keeps all of these moving parts of us together
she holds onto us so tightly
but still
gives us the pleasure of being let go
so we visit the moon
only to find that there is
so much depth
to our oceans

exploration ends
only when we decide
that there
is nothing left for us to discover
but watch
a child play in the mud for an hour
and tell you
his favorite part?
is the sound that it makes.

let it remind us, when we were curious enough
to get our hands dirty
when we found pride
in grass stained knees
when we knew there was only one place
that guaranteed us peace
and it was
with the wildflowers.

But then we grew up
tried to jump so far forward we fell back
put so much food on the table that the world starved
for the full few
sometimes
we feel we are the full few
other times
we are starving for more purpose than our plates can carry
to a leaning table’s edge
everything
is so temporary

one day
we will all sink into the earth we rose from
she will digest our bodies tenderly
not waste energy deciphering which cells committed which sins
she will forgive us for everything
only hope we sparked fires inside us
that we kept ourselves warm in all of our cold seasons
that we did our best beyond reason.

And we must
do our best beyond reason.

Now, when given a chance to choose
between progress and profit
we choose progress and profit
the earth
makes another lap around the sun
and we are given 365 days to evolve
every sunset is urgent
every sunrise is alarm
and we cannot afford to hit snooze.

Who are we?
if not change makers
innovators
Who are we?
if we are not bold?

We
get the future we want
only if we
create the future
the future grows into.

So let us be
so forward thinking
that earth
blossoms back.
